EPL: Lionel Messi speaks on Cristiano Ronaldo’s performance at Man United

Published

Paris Saint-Germain forward, Lionel Messi has said that his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo has ‘adapted’ admirably since moving to Manchester United from Juventus.

The Argentine also believes his rivalry with the Portuguese will go down as a ‘beautiful memory’ in football history.

Ronaldo has scored nine goals for United this season having completed a move back to Old Trafford on deadline day.

And Messi has been impressed by the immediate impact the Portugal captain has made this term, while he, Messi, has scored only his first league goal on Saturday by comparison.

Messi, asked what he thinks about Ronaldo’s start, told Marca: “United is a very strong team with great players. Cristiano already knew the club, but it’s in another stage and now he has adapted in an impressive way.

“From the beginning, he has scored goals as always and had no problems adapting.

“In the Premier League it is not as good as we all thought, but it is a very difficult and even competition in which things take a lot of turns.

“After December it changes a lot and anything can happen.”

EPL: Ronaldo would rather retire than be ‘benchwarmer’ under Rangnick – Agbonlahor

Published

on

Former Aston Villa striker, Gabby Agbonlahor, has insisted that Manchester United superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, would rather retire sooner than be a ‘benchwarmer’ under manager, Ralf Rangnick.

Agbonlahor believes Rangnick will have a “problem” if he keeps Ronaldo on the Man United bench for upcoming games.

Rangnick has been appointed Man United interim manager until the end of the season.

The 63-year-old German will then take up a two-year consultancy role at the club.

Rangnick is famed for a ‘gegenpressing’ style, an approach many feel will not be suited to Ronaldo, who was left out of Man United’s starting XI against Chelsea last weekend.

Ronaldo was dropped to the bench for Man United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Portugal captain seemed visibly frustrated at the end of the game as he marched straight down the tunnel after being introduced as a substitute.

But Agbonlahor suggested it could get even worse if the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is not a regular starter under Rangnick.

“If Rangnick has to drop Ronaldo, how will that affect the rest of the squad?” Agbonlahor said to Football Insider correspondent, Connor Whitley.

“Ronaldo will be a big voice in that changing room and he won’t want to be on the bench. Rangnick will have a problem if he chooses to leave the talisman on the bench.

“Ronaldo will not accept that, no way. He won’t mind being rested over Christmas when there are two games, three games in a week. That’s different, we all know you’ve to have rest.

“To not play regularly, though, Ronaldo is not that guy. I am sure Ronaldo would rather retire than be a benchwarmer.

“He is not that guy, he wants to play every game. It will be interesting to see what happens. He could end up retiring.”
