A 24-year-old man, Emmanuel Dominic, is in the custody of the Niger State Police Command over alleged armed robbery and impersonation of a soldier of the Nigerian Army in Minna, the state capital.
He was nabbed by the police dressed as a soldier attached to TRADOC, Minna, when he went to secure the freedom of his friend from police custody.
DAILY POST gathered the military uniform he wore belonged to his late father, who was a soldier.
Dominic, who resides around the Tunga area of the town, it was learnt claimed to be a barrack boy of the Nigerian Army Minna.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun said the suspect was arrested for impersonation by operatives attached to Maitunbi Division.
He stated, “the suspect dressed in Nigerian Army camouflage, went to the Police Division and paraded himself as a soldier of Nigerian Army with service no. 05313 attached to TRADOC, Minna to secure the release of his friend in Police custody.
“During interrogation, the suspect was discovered to be a fake soldier and subsequently arrested.”
Exhibits recovered from the suspect during investigation includes the following: one wooden carved gun, two axes, one jackknife, two kit bags, two OG green trousers, one army camouflage vest, shirt, boot, face cap, and a walking stick.
According to him, “he is equally suspected to have been robbing victims in Minna and its environs with the wooden carved gun, jackknife and the axe”.
“The case is under investigation, while the suspect will be arraigned in court for prosecution immediately after the investigation is concluded”.
Kaduna cleric urges security operatives to take Zamfara bandits’ threatening letter seriously
The General Overseer of Truth and Life Gospel Church, Trikania Kaduna, Dr. Sunday Omolafe Jeremiah, on Thursday, in Kaduna urged the police and other law enforcement agents to take urgent steps in protecting all churches and worship places in Zamfara and its environs
Omolafe, who is also a senior lecturer with Theological Bible College Kagoro Kaduna, made the passionate plea following the threatening letters from bandits to Christians in Zamfara to close all churches and Christian worship places
DAILY POST recalls that the Zamfara Police Command penultimate week, confirmed the threatening letter from bandits warning Christians to close down churches in Zamfara State.
CAN’s General Secretary, Barr Joseph Bade Daramola had warned against the threat, even as he warned politicians not to create enemity between Christians and Muslims.
He asked the security agencies in the country to leave no stone unturned in their protection of all churches in Zamfara State.
Reacting, Omolafe who was not comfortable with the threatening letter, said since everything is known to security agents, Christians in the State would not have much to fear.
He said Christians must be allowed to continue to enjoy their freedom to worship without hindrance or attack from the bandits.
He also warned some politicians who hide under the guise of bandits to bring division, hatred among Christians and Muslims in the country.
He assured Christians in Zamfara that the police would not allow bandits to do their bindings, adding that “the good part of it is that, the threatening letter came through the police, whose duty is to protect lives and property.”
Court remands 2 over murder of 9-year-old boy in Rivers
A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded two suspects, Kenneth Sylvanus and Chijioke Ogbonna, who are linked to the beheading of a 9-year-old boy in Isiokpo community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The court also directed the prosecutor to liaise with relevant authorities and produce the third suspect Chibuzor Amadi on the next adjourned date.
Sylvanus and Ogbonna, are standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on the murder of one Destiny Peter, a 9-year-old in Isiokpo community.
The first accused person, Kenneth Sylvanus, has already pleaded guilty to the charge even when it has not been read.
The prosecutor informed the court that the statement of the first accused mentioned one Chibuzor Amadi as a collaborator in the case and wondered why he was granted administrative bail by the police.
In his ruling, the chief Magistrate I. F Iyabo remanded the two suspects and directed the prosecutor to liaise with the Attorney General’s office to produce the third suspect Chibuzor Amadi on the next adjourned date- Monday, December 6, 2021.

EFCC arrests 18 suspected illegal oil bunkerers in Port Harcourt
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 18 suspected illegal oil bunkerers.
They were nabbed at a location within the new Government Reservation Area in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, announced the arrest in a statement on Wednesday.
The suspects are Thompson George, Asu Tommy, John Joseph, Imoh Anthonia, Adegbejire Michael, Mayei Godpower, Demian Israel Kelechi, Banyo Fred and Atuaka Chisom.
Others are Elliot Diamond, Simeon Blessing, Umukoro Victor, Horsefall Reuben, Munku Jonah Munga, Nweke John, Amos Daniel, Chikwe Chinedu and Gloria Horsfall.
They were caught with a truck with reg. no. Lagos AAA 995 XH, Toyota Avalon car with reg. no. Rivers SKP 327 AW, and Nissan Murano Jeep with reg. no. Rivers PHC 434 AE.
The truck was loaded with products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) packed in 9 Geepee tanks of 3,000 litres and three big drums filled with the same product.
The Avalon car conveyed products suspected to be illegally refined AGO in cellophane bags.
Uwujaren added that the suspects would be arraigned as soon as investigation is concluded.
