Senegal and Morocco are into the next phase of the 2022 World Cup qualifying series in the African zone.

Famara Diedhiou scored a hat-trick on Tuesday, to send Senegal into the final phase of qualifying.

The Teranga Lions defeated Namibia 3-1 in Johannesburg, taking them up to 12 points in Group H after four games.

Morocco also guaranteed top spot in Group I with two games left to play.

They beat Guinea 4-1 in Rabat, to ensure they will be one of the 10 group winners competing in the playoffs in March for five spots from the continent.

An 11th minute own goal saw South Africa beat Ethiopia 1-0 in Group G. The Bafana Bafana are top of the group, one point ahead of Ghana, who earlier won away in Zimbabwe.

South Africa travel to Ghana for their last qualifier next month.

Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring as Algeria reclaimed top place in Group A by beating Niger 4-0 away in Niamey. The African champions lead Burkina Faso on goal difference, with the two countries set for a showdown next month.

Last weekend, Nigeria exacted revenge on the Central African Republic with a 2-0 win in Douala, following a shock 1-0 loss at home to the Wild Beasts.

The Super Eagles now have a two-point advantage in Group C over second-placed Cape Verde Islands, who beat Liberia in Mindelo on Sunday. It could yet get down to the wire – a straight shoot-out between Nigeria and Cape Verde in Lagos.

The last two rounds of the group phase of African qualifiers will be played between November 10-16.

PSG ready to bring Osimhen back to France

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) are considering making a move to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli, according to Calciomercato.

It is being reported that the Ligue 1 club could offer Mauro Icardi in a cash plus swap deal for the Nigerian striker.

PSG are looking to offload Icardi, who is unsettled due to his marital problems with his wife and agent Wanda-Nara.

And they believe Osimhen, who has played in France with Lille, is the perfect replacement.

Osimhen has begun this season in fine form, after struggling to settle into Serie A football last year.

Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille for 81.3m euros in 2020 and although he scored 10 goals in 24 league games in his debut campaign, more was expected from him.

However, this season, he is finally showing why Napoli paid top dollar for his services with eight goals in nine games already.

FIFA told to give Africa more than five World Cup slots

Published

South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos, has called on FIFA to consider giving Africa more than five slots, ahead of the 2022 World Cup finals.

There are only five spots available for African teams at next year’s World Cup in Qatar, while Europe for instance will take 13 of the 32 places.

Broos has led Bafana Bafana to three victories and one draw in their first four matches in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and they are currently top of the Group G standings.

Only the group winners will advance to the next round of qualifying, where the five teams which will represent Africa will be decided.

“It is not fair, it is easier for good teams in Europe to qualify for the World Cup than [good teams] in Africa.

“In Africa, you have Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria, Algeria, Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt.

“You already have eight good teams there! I hope for 2026 this will change … it is a pity they have waited so long to do that because Africa deserves more teams,” Broos told The Citizen.

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, has said that Callum Hudson-Odoi’s best position is the Blues’ left wing.

Tuchel also said that Hudson-Odoi, 20, needs to help as a right wing-back occasionally.

The German said this following Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Malmo in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Chelsea defeated Malmo, thanks to a brace from Jorginho and a strike each from Andreas Christensen and Kai Havertz.

Hudson-Odoi delivered an impressive performance on the left flank of Chelsea’s attack as Tuchel acknowledged his display against the visitors.

“This is his best position, I know,” Tuchel told beIN Sports.

“Sometimes he needs to help as a right wing-back, so he needs to take it for the team.

“But we know the half left position upfront is his best position.”

Chelsea’s next match is against Norwich City in the English Premier League, EPL, on Saturday.
