EPL title: I’m not bothered – Jamie Carragher fires back at David Luiz

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, has hit back at former Arsenal and Chelsea defender, David Luiz, after the Brazilian said it was ‘funny’ that the former England international never won the Premier League before he retired from football.

Carragher was frequently critical of Luiz when he played in the Premier League, but the 34-year-old centre-back said he had ‘forgotten the past’.

Luiz, who now plays for Flamengo, recently said: “It’s funny, some people talk about how to win the Premier League, but they have never won it.

“Jamie Carragher never won the Premier League.

“They talk and say: ‘This player isn’t right for this league.’

“Yet, I won the league. These people have forgotten the past.”

Reacting to the development, Carragher said he was ‘not bothered’ by Luiz’s comments, adding that he would not have a problem with the player if he saw him physically.

“David Luiz had a pop at me the other day in a newspaper, saying I had not won the league because I would be critical of him as a player,” Carragher told the Tony Bellew is Angry podcast.

“And I have been critical of David Luiz, there is no doubt about that. Again nothing personal.

“But he is right, I have not won the league, so if that is his comeback, fine.

“We were completely different players and that is why I was maybe more critical of him and maybe he wasn’t my cup of tea.

“But if I was to see him now, I would not have a problem just because he had a pop at me.

“What I have learnt is, the older you get the less you care about what people think or say about you.

“I mean, we don’t like criticism, but the older you get, you are just like ‘I’m not bothered’.”

PSG ready to bring Osimhen back to France

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) are considering making a move to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli, according to Calciomercato.

It is being reported that the Ligue 1 club could offer Mauro Icardi in a cash plus swap deal for the Nigerian striker.

PSG are looking to offload Icardi, who is unsettled due to his marital problems with his wife and agent Wanda-Nara.

And they believe Osimhen, who has played in France with Lille, is the perfect replacement.

Osimhen has begun this season in fine form, after struggling to settle into Serie A football last year.

Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille for 81.3m euros in 2020 and although he scored 10 goals in 24 league games in his debut campaign, more was expected from him.

However, this season, he is finally showing why Napoli paid top dollar for his services with eight goals in nine games already.

FIFA told to give Africa more than five World Cup slots

South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos, has called on FIFA to consider giving Africa more than five slots, ahead of the 2022 World Cup finals.

There are only five spots available for African teams at next year’s World Cup in Qatar, while Europe for instance will take 13 of the 32 places.

Broos has led Bafana Bafana to three victories and one draw in their first four matches in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and they are currently top of the Group G standings.

Only the group winners will advance to the next round of qualifying, where the five teams which will represent Africa will be decided.

“It is not fair, it is easier for good teams in Europe to qualify for the World Cup than [good teams] in Africa.

“In Africa, you have Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria, Algeria, Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt.

“You already have eight good teams there! I hope for 2026 this will change … it is a pity they have waited so long to do that because Africa deserves more teams,” Broos told The Citizen.

EPL: Thomas Tuchel names Hudson-Odoi’s best position at Chelsea

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, has said that Callum Hudson-Odoi’s best position is the Blues’ left wing.

Tuchel also said that Hudson-Odoi, 20, needs to help as a right wing-back occasionally.

The German said this following Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Malmo in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Chelsea defeated Malmo, thanks to a brace from Jorginho and a strike each from Andreas Christensen and Kai Havertz.

Hudson-Odoi delivered an impressive performance on the left flank of Chelsea’s attack as Tuchel acknowledged his display against the visitors.

“This is his best position, I know,” Tuchel told beIN Sports.

“Sometimes he needs to help as a right wing-back, so he needs to take it for the team.

“But we know the half left position upfront is his best position.”

Chelsea’s next match is against Norwich City in the English Premier League, EPL, on Saturday.
