Atiku remained VP after dumping Obasanjo – Keyamo berates PDP over Matawalle

Festus Keyamo, Minister of Labour, has lampooned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, stressing that Atiku Abubakar didn’t resign when he decamped while serving with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbodiyan had demanded the resignation of Matawalle for defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The spokesman further cautioned banks and other financial institutions to be wary of financial transactions with Matawalle.

The PDP insisted that the Deputy Governor, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, now holds the Zamfara governorship mandate and ought to be accorded the protection and privileges due the office of Governor.

The formal process for Gusau’s official declaration as substantive helmsman of Zamfara has commenced at the Federal High Court.

In a statement, Keyamo said to give its illogical assertions some veil of constitutionality, the PDP relied on Section 221 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as well as the judgment of the Supreme Court in Faleke v. INEC.

He told the party that the Supreme Court decision in Faleke v. INEC does not relate to the consequence of the defection of a Governor from one political party to the other.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) said a more apt instance is the Atiku scenario wherein as VP, elected under the PDP, defected to the then Action Congress (AC).

Keyamo recalled President Olusegun Obasanjo attempted to declare his office vacant in circumstances similar to the Zamfara scenario and the dispute ended in court.

“I was part of the legal team at the time. It is trite that under the 1999 constitution, provisions relating to removal of the President/Vice President are replicated with respect to Governors/Deputy Governors.”

He cited the position of the Supreme Court was reported as ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION V. ABUBAKAR (2007) 10 NWLR (PART 1041) 1.

At page 124 of the eport, Justice Walter Onnoghen said there is no where in the 1999 Constitution where it is stated that the President or Vice President shall be removed from office if he/she joins another political party.

The former Chief Justice of Nigeria explained it is the responsibility of the Legislature to make or amend the laws, where the need arises, while the judiciary interpret and apply the laws.

He declared that the courts can not add to nor subtract from the law as enacted by the Legislature under the guise of judicial interpretation of the Constitution or Statute.

Keyamo said the PDP should realise that its infantile and illogical position in the case of Zamfara appears as a joke.

The legal practitioner advised for the opposition to concentrate on calming its rocking boat and stop chasing a horse that has already bolted from the stable.

Anambra election: Soludo mocks Andy Uba, says APC candidate afraid of meeting his people

The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has mocked his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Senator Andy Uba, over his inability to flag off his governorship election campaign.
Soludo in a press release by the director of media of his campaign organization, Mr C. Don Adinuba, said the delay for the flag off of Uba’s campaign was because he was afraid of meeting the people of Anambra State to answer questions about his past actions.

Recall that Senator Uba had twice rescheduled the flag off of his campaign, citing the insecurity in the state, and on one occasion, suspended it in honour of the killing of Dr Chike Akunyili, husband of former information minister, Prof Dora Akunyili.

The Soludo Campaign Organization had dismissed Uba’s claim for suspending the campaign, saying the suspension had nothing to do with the state of security. It said Uba rather suspended the campaign because he was frustrated that President Muhammadu Buhari had refused to attend the rally, and there was no indication that the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo would attend either.

Mocking Uba, Soludo in the release said: “The APC purported candidate has been running away from the good people of Anambra State for weeks because he is afraid of his own shadow in the state.

“Uba is very afraid of Anambra people, the very people he wants to rule by all means.

“In fact, his fear of ndi Anambra borders on phobia because of what he has done to the state since his days in the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration when the state witnessed abduction of the sitting governor and his so-called resignation from office.

“The forced movement of the governor to the Okija shrine in the dead of the night to swear an oath of critical and perpetual allegiance to a tiny clique of so-called godfathers, the mayhem of November, 2003, are part of the reason he doesn’t want to meet the people.”

Soludo said by claiming that the security situation is not good, Uba and his group are passing a vote of no confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari who is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and to whom all security and intelligence services in the country are answerable.

“Uba’s inability to hold rallies springs from his growing unpopularity and outright rejection not only by the people of Anambra State but also by top members of his own party, including President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige who is the APC founder in the state and National Inland Waterways Authority chief executive George Moghalu.

“After all, Professor Soludo, who was attacked on March 31 in his hometown of Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area is holding huge rallies all over the state, touring two local government areas daily, together with the fearless Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano.”

The release also added that it was unfair for Uba to claim that he scored a whole 320,201 votes to win the primary election of his party on June 26, 2021, when the entire APC membership in the state was not up to that, nor did anyone come out to vote on that day.

6 APC Governors supporting Tinubu’s presidential ambition – Dayo Adeyeye

Former Minister of Works and National Chairman, Southwest Agenda for Tinubu presidential ambition codenamed SWAGA 2023, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has revealed that 16 All Progressives Congress (APC) governors are covertly supporting the presidential aspiration of the former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The group also inaugurated a parallel APC executives at the Ward and local government levels, describing the Hon Paul Omotoso-led executives elected by a group loyal to Governor Kayode Fayemi on Saturday as mere impostors.

Adeyeye spoke in Ado Ekiti, on Thursday, while inaugurating the factional executives belonging to SWAGA group across the two strata of the party.

While addressing the factional APC and SWAGA members, Adeyeye said : “Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will be the next President of this country and one of us will become the governor in Ekiti State. I am happy that the new executives have passion for this group and this will lead to action and eventually victory for all of us.

“APC leaders and members across board are using their personal money to fund SWAGA. Members are not after money. Let me tell you this, 16 governors are now backing Tinubu for president and they are no longer afraid after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State openly supported us when we did the flag-off in Lagos”.

Speaking about the strength of SWAGA in Ekiti, which he described as strong and intimidating in terms of membership, Adeyeye added: “We leant that they wanted to come and disrupt this swearing-in today, but I said they can’t. Governor Fayemi wanted to conduct election into the House of Assembly in Ekiti East constituency one, they killed three people.

“That was how weak and debased our party is now. The current government can’t bring out a governorship candidate in APC and win in 2022. They have been rejected and SWAGA is coming to save the party from ruin”.

On the new parallel executives inaugurated by SWAGA, the former Minister said: “Those that were inaugurated today are the authentic APC executives in Ekiti. The party at the national level brought out a guideline that people should come out and queue to vote for the ward and local government congresses, but the people didn’t come out. They were inside a room concocting names under the guise of consensus.

“But SWAGA members filed out. We have the video clip that we will present. What they did on Saturday, October 16 was a nullity and a complete waste of time. We knew what we did for Fayemi to win in 2018, he couldn’t have won on his own, because he has no popularity.

“I know that they can’t buy you with money, you are for SWAGA. This government has finished, don’t let them deceive you with positions. Only the Fayemi’s Tokantokan group are enjoying the dividends of what we did, others are sidelined. It is now ‘chop alone, die alone.’

“Even many of those with appointments are aggrieved, many will shock them during the governorship primary, we are now using direct primary. They can no longer sleep because the party now wants direct primary, owing to the fact that they are not popular”, Adeyeye said.

The SWAGA State Coordinator, Prince Bamigboye Adegoroye, commended members for mobilising for the party despite alleged threats from some people, saying the group has become a powerful force to be reckoned with in APC.

“By the grace of God, all our struggles will end in happiness. This is the time for political struggle. Some of you acted like brave men today, if not, you won’t have been able to attend this occasion”.

The group’s Chairman, Ikere- Council, Lanre Adekungba, said they had worked for the party in the past, but without profit, saying SWAGA will be a departure from such harrowing experiences.

“We are using our personal funds to maintain this group, which shows that we are resolute. We will deliver the party in the primary. How many people remain with them, the remnants, we will bring them to this group”.

The group’s Woman Leader in Efon Local Government, Mrs Eunice Adeoye, said the executives should be more diligent and aggressive in mobilising for the group, to be able to produce governorship candidate for the 2022 governorship election.

APGA to Uzodinma: Rise up or resign over insecurity in Imo

The leadership of Imo All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA has asked Gov Hope Uzodinma of Imo State to find ways to stop the killing in the state or resign if he is unable to provide adequate security to the people he is governing.

The opposition party said security of lives and property is paramount to the people, calling on Gov Uzodinma to rise up and combat increasing insecurity in the State.

APGA said,” Indeed, Imo State has become a fiesdom of killings as no week passes without one killing or the other with accusing fingers pointing at the infamous unknown gunmen.”

The party made the call on Thursday in a release signed by Hon. Emeka Nkwoada, APGA Publicity Secretary and made available to journalists in Owerri, Imo State capital.

The release reads,” the leadership of Imo APGA has condemned the gruesome and senseless killing of two prominent traditional rulers from Njaba LGA.

“The royal fathers, HRH Eze E A Duruebube and HRH Eze Sampson Osunwa of Ihebinowere autonomous communities, were among the twenty traditional rulers having their peaceful meeting at Njaba LGA before the dastardly act that left many injured and hospitalised.

“It will be recalled that this latest killing is coming barely one week after soldiers and unarmed youths of Izombe, in Oguta LGA clashed, leaving in it’s wake, many deaths and houses destroyed.

“As a political party, APGA Imo State believes that these orgy of killings in our state and neighbourhood is alien to our culture and no sensible Igbo man will indulge in such.

“There must be a stop to these killings or else the governor should resign if he cannot provide adequate security to the people he is governing. Security of lives and property is paramount to the people”.
